GORHAM — Senior guard Alex Kee of Bath scored a team-high 17 points to lead three players in double figures as the University of Southern Maine Huskies overcame a slow start to defeat the University of Maine at Farmington Beavers 69-52 in a non-conference men’s basketball game Tuesday night at Hill Gymnasium.
The win was the third straight for Southern Maine, now 6-2. The loss snaps a four-game winning streak for the Beavers, who dropped to 7-2.
Despite shooting an ice-cold 31.4 percent (11-for-35) from the field in the opening half, Southern Maine held a comfortable 30-21 lead at the break thanks to a quick-hitting 7-0 run to close out the final minute of action in the opening stanza.
Kee was 5-for-13 from the field and 3-for-6 from 3-point range for his team-high total.
Southern Maine hosts Westfield State on Saturday (2 p.m.) in a non-conference game.
