BRUNSWICK — The Brunswick Elks Free Throw Shooting Contest, originally scheduled for Dec. 27, has been rescheduled to Jan. 8 at the Brunswick Recreation Center.
The contest is open to boys and girls, ages 8-13 (as of April 1, 2013). Only children who live in Brunswick, Topsham, SAD 75 communities, Lisbon and Freeport are eligible. There is no registration fee, but pre-registration is required.
Each contestant will shoot 25 foul shots from age-appropriate foul lines to 10-foot high baskets. Girls and boys in the 8-9 age category will shoot from 11-foot foul lines to 10-foot high baskets with intermediate size basketballs.
Winners in each age category qualify for advancement to the district contests, against winners from other subordinate lodges of Elks, scheduled for a later date. Contestants continuing to win will advance to state, regional and national contests.
Deadline for entering is Monday at 4:30 p.m. The contest will take place at the Brunswick Recreation Department, and registration forms can be picked up at the Recreation Department.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
