BRUNSWICK — The Brunswick High School subvarsity girls basketball teams have been busy.

On Wednesday, Erskine Academy opened up a 21-16 first half lead and held off the Brunswick Black squad 37-34 in freshmen girls action.

Malone Weaver led Erskine Academy with 13 points and Michelle Lemelin added eight.

Brunswick’s offense was led by Jena Bailey with 13 points, while Zoe Donovan contributed seven. Cyndle Turcotte and Suzy Anderson played well defensively. Turcotte also had seven rebounds and three blocked shots, while Anderson had five steals.

Erskine Academy held a 7-5 advantage after the first quarter. The Dragons tied the score 26-26 in the third quarter, but Erskine Academy closed the third quarter with a 30-26 advantage.

The Brunswick girls Orange jayvee squad, led by Gillian Doehring’s 15 firsthalf points, jumped out to a 37-11 lead at halftime and held off Erskine on Wednesday, 53- 41.

Brunswick had a 16-4 advantage after the first quarter. Erskine, which was led offensively by Katie Gamage with 10 points, outscored the Dragons 12-8 in the third quarter and 18-8 in the fourth quarter.

The Dragons’ fullcourt press produced a number of Erskine Academy turnovers in the first half as Doehring had seven steals and Sabrina Levesque five. Elizabeth Day added 11 points and Sasha Hampton chipped in with 10 points for Brunswick. Mollie Roane and Turcotte were also game-long standouts.
