BRUNSWICK — Virginia Mary Caruso, 67, a 25-year resident of Brunswick ME, passed into eternal life on January 14 after a three-year battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease).

Virginia was a devoted daughter and sister and will be greatly missed by many. She is survived by her brother, John Caruso and sister-in-law, Penny Caruso from Ocoee, FL; her nephew, John Caruso Jr. from Chicago and her niece, Christy Williams and her three children, Ethan, Catlyn and Ronan from East Brunswick, NJ.

Virginia received her BS in Science and Business Education from Salem State; her MA in Health and Physical Education from East Stroudsburg College and her PhD in Education from U of MA at Amherst. She taught at several institutions, among them Kennesaw State College and Ohio State University. After teaching, she branched into the financial field and began working at Edward Jones opening the first EJ office in Maine and along the Eastern seaboard. She was instrumental in mentoring and teaching many of the EJ personnel in the Region. Several times during her tenure with EJ she was recognized for her Service and Leadership.

An avid outdoors person, Virginia loved camping, hiking, white-water canoeing and rafting, and travelling. Her travels have taken her to the Artic Circle, to Antarctica, to Africa, the jungles of South America, Europe and many places in between. Virginia was a fellow Rotarian who believed in “service above self ”. She served widely in her community and on many Boards such as Maine State Music Theatre, the American Red Cross, Peoples Plus, the Chocolate Church, the Pejepscot Historical Society. A devoted Catholic, Virginia served on various ministries at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.

Visiting hours will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Wednesday, January 16, 2012 at Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal Street, Brunswick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 17, 2013 in St. Charles Borromeo Church, 132 McKeen Street, Brunswick, with Reverend Frank Murray officiating.
