PORTLAND — Bernstein Shur, one of northern New England’s largest law firms, announced that in 2012 it contributed more than 2,900 hours of pro bono legal services, valued at more than $700,000, to nonprofit organizations and community service projects in Maine, New Hampshire and around the world.
The firm also contributed the most hours of any law firm in Maine for the Maine Volunteer Lawyers Project, a program of the Maine Bar Foundation and Pine Tree Legal Assistance.
“It’s terrific that so many of our attorneys dedicate significant time and energy serving those in need,” said Charles Miller, Bernstein Shur’s CEO.
Each year, Bernstein Shur recognizes two attorneys for their exceptional commitment to pro bono service. The following attorneys were honored:
— Fred Lipp, shareholder and member of the firm’s Business Law Practice Group, received the Sumner T. Bernstein Pro Bono Award for his local and international pro bono work.
— Pat Peard, shareholder and member of the firm’s Labor and Employment Practice Group, received the Barnett I. Shur Civic Award for her work on the Maine Marriage Equality campaign.
