EAST MACHIAS — Hazel L. Mallar-Cox, 90, died January 25, 2013 in Bangor after a brief illness. She was born on Campobello, N.B. Canada the daughter of the late James and Clara (Benson) Taylor.
She attended Lubec schools and graduated nursing school as a registered nurse in Biddeford, ME. She worked as a R.N. in NH and Brunswick, ME for many years. Hazel married Walter D. Mallar of Machias, her husband for 47 years. After his passing, she married Guy R. Cox in 2002 and lived with him in E. Machias until her death. Following her retirement from nursing, she performed volunteer work for Respite, the Brunswick Senior Center and the Seventh Day Adventist Community Center in Brunswick, ME.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother Harold Taylor. She is survived by her husband Guy R. Cox of East Machias; two sons Dan and Paul Mallar both of AZ, a brother Rev. Robert Taylor of Adairsville, GA and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers those who wish are encouraged to contribute to Down East Hospice- Calais Regional Hospital, 24 Hospital Lane, Calais, Maine 04619.
