GORHAM — Parker Chipman of Pownal and Freeport High School was among four members of the University of Southern Maine Huskies men’s indoor track and field team that swept the Little East Conference weekly awards for their performances at the five-team Maine State Championships held at the Costello Sports Complex Saturday night.
Chipman was named the Track Athlete of the Week. He won the 800-meter run — an event in which he is now ranked sixth in the nation — crossing the finish line in 1:54.60. Chipman’s winning time qualifies him for the New England Division III, NEIAAA Open New England and ECAC Division III Championships meets.
The senior also ran a 1:57 spilt as the third leg of USM’s second-place4x800relay team.
It is the second time Chipman has been honored as the LEC Track Athlete of the Week this season.
The Huskies totaled 123 points in the meet to finish third behind Bates College (207) and Bowdoin (139).
Southern Maine will be back in action when they host the Little East Conference/New England Alliance Championships at the Costello Sports Complex on Saturday.
