Amusement park society’s topic

Historians will learn about an amusement park when Westbrook Historical Society meets at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6, in Westbrook Community Center, 426 Bridge St.

The speaker is Denise Macaronas, a member of the group, Friends of Riverton Park.

Mike Sanphy, president of the historical society, said the Riverton Trolley Park was owned by the Portland Railroad Co. The park was located on the Presumpscot River near the Westbrook-Portland city line.

Triad to meet

The Gorham-Westbrook Triad will meet 9-10 a.m. on Friday, March 8, at Mill Brook Estates, 300 East Bridge St., Westbrook.

Triad is a coalition of senior citizens, law enforcement and community providers that promote the safety and wellbeing of senior citizens.

Club to craft sunshine baskets

Westbrook Woman’s Club will meet at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5, in Westbrook-Warren Congregational Church, 810 Main St.

Members are reminded to take items for the sunshine baskets the group will make. Light refreshments will be served.

Ceramic art, paintings on display

The Saccarappa Art Collective, 861 Main St., will present “Layers,” an exhibit of new ceramic sculpture and wall tiles by Newcastle artist Jonathan Mess, as the Main Gallery guest exhibit Saturday, March 2, through Wednesday, April 10.

On the Riverside Wall, Portland artist Holly Brooks’ vibrant acrylic paintings will be spotlighted.

An opening reception featuring wine and hors d’oeuvres will be from 5-8 p.m. on March 2. Gallery hours are noon to 7 p.m., Wednesday-Saturday.

New works by member artists Andy Curran, Sherry Ballou, Mary Brooking, Jody Dube, Jeremy Greene, Caren-Marie Michel, Lucy Ellen Smith, Frank Valliere and Julie Vohs will also be on display in the gallery.

Saccarappa Art Collective is committed to presenting the authentic vision of local and regional professional artists to the greater community.

Seniors plan program, trips

Westbrook Senior Citizens will meet at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, March 4, in Westbrook Community Center, 426 Bridge St.

Ann McAlpine, a spokeswoman for the seniors, said Meredith Goad, a food columnist, would speak.

This spring, the seniors will hit the road and sea in two upcoming trips. They will cruise from Boston, Mass., to Bermuda on an eight-day trip beginning Friday, May 31. Straight Lace, a New England band, will play golden oldies. A $400 deposit is required to register for the trip.

Then, the seniors will travel to Danvers Yacht Club in Danvers, Mass., to see Charlie Thomas and the Drifters on Tuesday, June 11.

Crouse excels

in academics

Gabrielle Crouse of Westbrook has been named to the dean’s for the fall semester at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Penn.

Crouse, a graduate of Westbrook High School, is the daughter of Cheryl Crouse and Charles Crouse.
