BATH — The Hyde Phoenix wrestlers concluded the season at Lehigh University over the weekend at the National Prep Wrestling Championships.

This event brought together the qualified wrestlers of 121 private schools across America.

Hyde was represented by junior 138-pounder Darvin Anderson, who qualified as New England’s fifth-place finisher and senior 285-pounder Steven Dwight, the New England champion.

Anderson lost his first match via a pin, won 10-4, and went 1-2, finishing the season at 25-8.

Dwight entered the National Tournament seeded No. 3. In the opening round, Dwight put on a show, racking up two pins and a dominating 6-2 decision in the quarterfinals.

Saturday morning, Dwight faced off against Wyoming Seminary’s heavyweight, ranked No. 7 nationally, in the semifinals, losing 6-4.

In the consolation semifinals, Dwight produced several takedowns before pinning his Choate-Rosemary Hall opponent in just 1:19. In the consolation finals, for third place, Wright dominated every position against the Maryland Independent state champion from Good Counsel and worked a third-period pin.

Dwight became Hyde’s second All-American, the other being late 1970’s alum Arnold Goodgame as Hyde’s highest National placer ever.

His final record this season stands at 32-3.
