Bonny Eagle High School, Standish: Senior Gaelyn Lindauer won a Gold Key in the Scholastic Inc. writing contest for poetry, one of 19 awards from 205 submissions in Maine. The national Scholastic Writing Awards are judged in mid-March. Lindauer also won a silver key in the Scholastic art awards and an honorable mention for her art portfolio. Senior Hannah Pomerleau received an honorable mention in art for her sculpture.

Merriconeag Waldorf High School, Freeport: Ben Tindall, a senior from Durham, has been named one of more than 3,000 candidates in the 2013 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. Students are selected based on academic and artistic achievements, leadership and community and school activities. Five hundred semifinalists will be announced in early April.

Siemens Awards: Shreyas Joshi, a senior at Falmouth High School, and Amy Wasielewski, a senior at Yarmouth High School, were named the Maine state winners of the 2012-13 Siemens Awards for Advanced Placement. The award, and a $2,000 scholarship, is given to the top male and female performers in science and math Advance Placement courses in each state.
