TOPSHAM — Marjorie Lea Wooten, 71, died peacefully in her home Sunday. She was born in Gardiner on Dec. 7, 1941, a daughter of Wallace Lancaster Stonier and Evelyn Haskell Stonier.

Wooten graduated from Gardiner High School, Class of 1960. After high school, she worked briefly for National Grange Insurance and then began her 35-year career with the U.S. Department of Defense in Brunswick.

She married the love of her life, Larry Dale Wooten, on Feb. 19, 1966. They were members of the Friday Night Couples Bowling League in Brunswick for many years. After retirement, she volunteered with the Hospice Volunteers of Mid-Coast Maine and was a member of the Moosepathian Red Hat Ladies.

She was predeceased by her parents, brother Richard Wallace Stonier, her husband’s parents, Carl W. and Mildred A. Wooten, and a brother-in-law, Clifford L. Wooten.

Wooten is survived by her husband, Larry D. Wooten; her son, David Scott Wooten, of Amesbury, Mass., and his wife Kathleen; and her granddaughter, Maille Kennae Wooten. Also surviving are her sister, Priscilla J. Costello, of Hallowell; her brother, Lawrence C. Stonier, and his wife Claudette, of Augusta; sisters-in-law Phyllis Stonier, of Plattsburgh, N.Y., and Connie R. Allen, of Warren, Mich.; favorite niece and nephew, Kathleen Farrell and her husband Timothy, of West Gardiner; and Jefferson Slack and his wife Michelle, of Wiscasset.

The family would like to thank Janet Edmunson and Barby Johnson, facilitators of the Portland Area Atypical Parkinson’s Support Group, as well as all the members of the group for their much-appreciated support and assistance during the past nine months.

Thanks also go to Shirley Staples of Lisbon Falls, a faithful friend who visited weekly, and to the staff of CHANS Home Health Care and Hospice, who cared for Wooten and supported her husband through difficult adjustments.

At Wooten’s request, there will be no visiting hours. Following cremation, she will be buried at the Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery on Mount Vernon Road in Augusta. Committal services will be held at 9 a.m. on Tuesday in the chapel at the cemetery.
