WOOLWICH — Carroll Richard “Dick” Redding, 72, of Woolwich, passed away unexpectedly on Monday morning, May 13, 2013, at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

He was born in Gettysburg, Pa., on Sept. 28, 1940, the son of Leonard and Helen Yohe Redding.

Dick grew up in Gettysburg, graduating from Saint Francis Prep class of 1958. In August 1958, Dick joined the U.S. Navy and proudly served his country. He was stationed in Argentia, Newfoundland, where he met his soul mate, Carol A. Moore. The couple were married on June 27, 1964, and resided in Canada. Being in the military, the couple moved to many exciting places. Hawaii was his favorite place to be stationed.

On Oct. 1, 1985, Dick retired from his life long career as a warrant officer and the couple moved to Woolwich, Maine. Dick was a very active man and couldn’t find time to settle down, so he gained employment with Bath Iron Works for the next nine years. Wanting to try something different, he than gained employment with the Bath Police Department as a dispatcher. Dick also worked as a substitute teacher for the Bath and Brunswick school departments as well as SAD 75.

Dick had a passion for golf; he belonged to the Bath Country Club for many years. He and his wife, Carol, were members of the Friday Night Mixed Bowling League and Dick had been a trustee at the Elks in Bath. He was a man that loved his family and would always be there when needed, a man of his word. He will be sadly missed by all those that loved him.

In lieu of flowers, the family’s wishes are to have memorial donations made to the Disabled American Veterans, DAV Memorial Program, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301; or the American Diabetes Association, 163 Lancaster St., Portland, ME 04101.

Dick was predeceased by his parents.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Carol; children, Christine and her husband, Daniel Thiboutot, and Charles “Rick” and his wife, Diann Redding; grandchildren, Justin and Jeremy Thiboutot; stepgrandchildren, Blane (Leah), Cody and Taylor Swanson of Freeport, Ill.; and a sister, Barbara A. Redding of Tampa, Fla.

At Dick’s request, there will be no services.
