TOPSHAM — The Mt. Ararat Middle School eighthgrade softball squad got past Lewiston, 3-1 in recent action.
Lewiston pitcher Emily Mousseau had eight strikeouts and two walks, while Mt. Ararat hurler Alana Weaver struck out eight and walked two.
Mt. Ararat’s Rhiannon Hersey had two singles, Samantha Gonyea a double, and Kate Guerin, Mikaila Cloutier, Katelyn Cox and Weaver a single each.
The Eagles scored first in the third when Guerin singled, stole second, took third on a Hersey single and came home on a fielder’s choice by Cloutier.
In the fourth, Gonyea doubled and scored on an error, while Hersey scored the final run in the fifth inning after she singled and came across on hits by Cloutier and Cox.
Lewiston got on the board in the seventh when Lexi Poulin scored on a sacrifice flyball by Jordan Mynahan.
Weaver struck out the last batter to end the game.
