Vote June 11 on school budget

The school budget referendum election will be held on Tuesday, June 11. Voting hours are 7 a.m.-8 p.m. at these locations:

Ward 1 – Fred C. Wescott Community Building, 426 Bridge St.

Wards 2, 3, 4 – Westbrook Armory, 120 Stroudwater St.

Ward 5 – Prides Corner Congregational Church, 235 Pride St.

Residents can register to vote at the City Clerk’s Office prior to Election Day or at the polls on June 11. Anyone wishing to vote by absentee can do so by doing one of the following:

1. Coming into the City Clerk’s Office.

2. Calling 591-8131 to request a ballot be mailed to you.

3. Have an immediate family member pick one up for you.

All absentee ballots must be returned to the clerk’s office by 8 p.m. on June 11.

The clerk’s office will be open until 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 6, for absentee voting and voter registration. Those with questions can call 591-8131.

Community center summertime fun

The Westbrook Community Center at the Fred C. Wescott Building, 426 Bridge St., has multiple programs planned for the summer. Among them:

Youth and family

Open Art Studio – Tuesdays, June 28 through Aug. 13, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., in the art studio. Weekly supervised projects for children ages 5-13. All skills levels welcomed. Designed to get creativity flowing and imaginations engaged. Drop-In Fee: $3 per child per week. )

Family Reading Room – Tuesdays, beginning June 25, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., in the new Family Reading Room. Spend some quality quiet time reading or playing a board game. Free.

Day trips – Tuesdays, beginning July 7, for youth entering grades 6-9 this fall. Must register online and pay at time of registration to reserve spot. Descriptions, times and fees are on the website: July 2, sea kayaking; July 30, high/low ropes course; Aug. 6, trip to Peak’s Island; Aug. 13, Magic Falls White Water Rafting.

Cornelia Warren Outdoor Pool – Open weekdays, beginning Monday, June 24, 1-6 p.m., and weekends, noon-7 p.m. Fees and rules are posted online.

Riverbank Park Summer Concert Series – Wednesdays, 6-8 p.m., free: Westbrook City Band (7/10); The Hurricanes (7/17); Now is Now (7/24); Stolen Mojo (7/24); Pretty Girls Sing Sopranos (8/7); David Goode (8/14); and Time Pilots (8/21).

Guided Presumpscot River kayak tours from Riverbank Park – Tuesdays, 6/11, 6/25, 7/9, 7/23, 8/6, 7-8 p.m. Spend an hour on the river, paddling and following a guide who will take you for a slow and serenic ride from Saccarappa Falls to the historic Elms. $15 for standard kayak; $20 for tandem kayak. Fee includes watercraft, paddles and personal floating device. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Reservations must be made in advance by visiting the main office at 426 Bridge St. or by calling 854-0676 to make a credit card payment. Space is limited.

Presumpscot River Adventures kayak rentals at Riverbank Park – Wednesdays and Thursdays, 4-8 p.m., and Saturdays, 8 a.m.-4 p.m., beginning June 1. Rental fees: $10 for standard kayak; $15 for tandem kayak. Fee includes watercraft, paddles and personal floating device. Drop-in only; rent on site with a valid driver’s license or I.D. card. Ages 16 and older only.

Adult Education
