Thank You, Naples
Town Manager Derik Goodine wanted to inaugurate the new amphitheatre on the Causeway. What better way than to throw a town-wide party using the space for exactly what it was intended for? The new amphitheatre space was designed to be used as a gathering space for special events in Naples. A free fun-filled event was held Sunday for residents complete with a BBQ, entertainment, and plenty of sunshine, thanks to the rain date. The event celebrated the nearing of the end of a three-year-long construction project, as well as all the other major improvements taking place in Naples including the renovations of the new museum and information center on the Village Green, the expansion and improvements at the town beach, and the purchase of the new ladder truck for the Naples Fire Department.
Naples Blues Festival
Once again, the biggest event to hit Naples is here. Always held Father’s Day weekend, this year landing on June 14 to 16, the blues fest is always a great time. Walk along the newly renovated Causeway, check out the vendors, listen to music and soak up the scenery, and hopefully the sun. For the complete schedule of bands and other details, visit www.mainebluesfestival.com. Luckily, this is a rain or shine event, but let’s hope the fickle weather cooperates.
Calling All Junior Parents
The Lake Region High School Project Graduation Committee of 2013 would like to invite all parents of juniors to attend their final meeting of the year. The purpose of the meeting is to prepare you for your child’s upcoming senior Project Graduation event. In addition they need volunteers for the traditional Graduation Day duties on June 9. We will also go over the “what’s next” list for your committee to begin your own Project Grad journey. It will be held at Coldwell Banker Lakes Region Properties in Naples on Tuesday, June 4 at 6 p.m. This year’s Project Grad committee has a lot to share about their senior experiences, so come get involved in this worthwhile process. If you have any questions please call: Connie Eldridge 831-0890 or email [email protected]. Please spread the word to any junior parents you think may be interested.
Naples Recreation Update
Join Casco and Naples Recreation for a senior (65-plus) trip to Sea Dog Brewing Co. for lunch, followed by an unbelievable show at the Maine State Music Theatre of “Les Miserables.” The trip is on Wednesday, June 26. Bus leaves the American Legion hall on Route 11 at 10 a.m. and returns around 6:30 p.m. The cost for residents is $63 and non-residents are $85. Non-residents will be put on a waiting list and will be taken if space is available. The deadline for registering is Friday, June 15. For more information, please contact Beth Latsey at 627-4187 or Harvey Price at 693-6364.
Fun in the Summer
The Naples Recreation Department is offering Funtown/Splashtown combination passes for $27 and the regular price is $36. Tickets available at the front desk.
Welcome!
If you have a minute, stop by the Naples Town Office and introduce yourself to Harriet Condon, our new Naples Town Secretary. With 15 years of municipal experience in Connecticut, Condon seems a perfect fit for the post. Condon is no stranger to Maine or to small towns, having grown up in Presque Isle. We wish her much success in her new position. Condon replaces former secretary Barbara Beckwith, who moved on to another municipal position in Gray.
Naples Library Update
The Naples Public Library will be closed on Saturday, June 22. The library will be making the final steps in the conversion of its circulation system to KOHA.
Have you bought your duck or flock for the DUCK DROP at the Blues Festival, Sunday, June 16, at 1 p.m. for the benefit of Naples Public Library? Cash prizes will be awarded for the ducks landing closest to the target. Ducks are now on sale at the Library, Country Sleigh and the Black Bear Cafe. Don’t miss out! The number of ducks is limited.
Buckle Up
We all know we should buckle up for safety reasons. But many of us jump in the car and forget, especially, if you are like me, and didn’t grow up having to wear a seat belt. This could be a costly mistake in more ways than one. The Maine State Police are running the Buckle Up, No Excuses enforcement until June 2. The two-week program’s goal is to crack down on careless drivers, and maybe save some lives in the process. The fine for not wearing a seatbelt is $70 for the first offense, $160 for the second, and ouch, $310 for the third. Don’t ignore this, I know a local man who just sent in his $160 check.
Congratulations
• Many great things are happening in and around Naples. The Naples Lion’s Club recently donated $2,000 to Camp Sunshine, which will fully fund a family to attend the camp for the special June session designed for children with retinoblastoma, a race cancer. This is the sixth year the Lions have been able to make this donation.
• Grade 4 children from Songo Locks School got to visit the State House and our state Rep. Christine Powers of Naples on a recent field trip to Augusta to visit the State House and Maine State Museum. As an added bonus, the Speaker of the House Mark Eves acknowledged the students as they sat in the gallery.
• Welcome to Bob Caron II to the Naples Board of Selectmen. Caron fills his father’s seat as Bob Caron, Sr. decided not to run for another term. Caron II was voted in during the School Administrative District 61 voting last Tuesday.
• Finally, congratulations to the Reinhard family of Kimball Corner on the marriage of Dylan Reinhard to Danica Barrows. The couple was married over Memorial Day weekend. Luckily the festivities were always intended to be indoors, thus the weather was irrelevant. Danica begins her new life as Mrs. Reinhard and a new St. Joseph’s College graduate.
