OLD ORCHARD BEACH – Austin Nadeau started the eighth inning with a single and scored the winning run on a throwing error on Jimmy Strohm’s sacrifice bunt, sending Old Orchard Beach to a 7-6 win over Waynflete Tuesday in a Western Class B preliminary-round baseball game at The Ballpark.

A two-run triple by Quincy Grace helped OOB (7-10) take a 4-3 lead in the fifth, but Waynflete (7-10) answered with three runs in the next two innings, keyed by Nik Morrill’s RBI double in the sixth.

The Seagulls loaded the bases on three singles in seventh, and Grace and Kendal Tatsak scored on consecutive groundouts to tie it.

 

OAK HILL 16, CAPE ELIZABETH 0: Ryan Riordan threw a one-hitter and went 2 for 3 with two doubles and two RBI to lead 11th-seeded Oak Hill (9-8) to a five-inning, Western Class B prelim win at No. 6 Cape Elizabeth (10-7).

Riordan struck out 10 and walked three.

BIDDEFORD 4, GORHAM 0: Casey Twomey lifted a bases-loaded triple to right-center in the first inning, setting No. 11 Biddeford (7-10) on its way to a Western Class A prelim victory over No. 6 Gorham (10-7) in Gorham.

Brady Fleurent, Patrick Wilson and Corey Brown scored on the triple. Wilson doubled home Corey Collard in the fifth to complete the scoring.

Wilson pitched a three-hitter, striking out five without a walk. Gorham pitcher Damon Wallace settled down after the first, finishing with a five-hitter.

 

FRYEBURG ACADEMY 6, LINCOLN ACADEMY 0: Ian MacFawn struck out eight and walked two in a three-hitter as the eighth-seeded Raiders (9-8) dropped the No. 9 Eagles (8-9) in a Western Class B prelim game at Fryeburg.

Tyler Hill hit a go-ahead triple in the third, then scored on a wild pitch. Fryeburg tacked on another run in the fifth, and Tanner Wentworth and Walker Day added RBI singles during a three-run sixth.

 

POLAND 8, MARANACOOK 3: Ethan Callier pitched 41/3 innings of scoreless relief and the 10th-seeded Knights (10-7) snapped a 3-all tie with five runs in the sixth inning to win a Western Class B prelim against the No. 7 Black Bears (9-7) at Readfield.

 

YORK 4, SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 0: Adam Bailey pitched six strong innings and Zach Leal had two hits with two RBI as the fifth-seeded Wildcats (12-5) downed the 12th-seeded Phoenix (9-8) in a Western Class B prelim at York.

Leal hit an RBI single and scored on a wild pitch in the fourth, and singled home Anthony Sciaudone in the fourth. Sciaudone had reached on a single that drove in Ben Lawlor.

Lawlor made a sliding catch of a line drive hit by leadoff hitter Matt Vigue in the top of the sixth.

Bailey allowed no walks and struck out nine.

 

THORNTON ACADEMY 8, NOBLE 6: Dylan Morton had three hits and the seventh-seeded Golden Trojans (9-8) scored two runs in the sixth inning to beat the 10th-seeded Knights (4-13) in a Western Class A prelim at Saco.

Drew Lavigne and Ben Lambert each had two hits for the Trojans.

First baseman Cam Jackman and right fielder Matt Rutherford each made important defensive plays when Noble was threatening. Jackman made a diving catch of a foul ball and Rutherford doubled up a runner after catching a fly.

Mason Della-Piana had two hits for Noble.

 

SACOPEE VALLEY 15, TRAIP 11: Kyle Jordan singled home a run, scored a run and added a three-run double as the sixth-seeded Hawks (8-9) scored 12 times in the third inning to overcome an early 5-0 deficit against No. 11 Traip (4-13) in a Western Class C prelim in South Hiram.

Brady Anderson, who had two hits and two RBI in the game, walked twice during the 12-run rally and scored twice.

 

NOKOMIS 6, OCEANSIDE 3: Justin Kasprzak singled home two runs as No. 11 Nokomis (8-9) scored four times in the fourth inning in an Eastern B prelim win, taking a 6-1 lead over the No. 6 Mariners (10-7) in Rockland.

Jack Ramsdell had an RBI single during the rally.

Connor Allen’s two-run home run had given the Warriors a 2-0 lead in the second before Nick Mazurek homered for Oceanside in the bottom of the inning.

LACROSSE

SOUTH PORTLAND 12, GORHAM 6: Thomas Leddy’s six goals led the way as the No. 2 Red Riots (11-2) outscored the No. 7 Rams (5-8) in a Western Class A quarterfinal in South Portland.

Duncan Preston and Joey Babbidge each contributed two goals and an assist for South Portland.

 

DEERING 8, MT. ARARAT 7: Sam Hornblower’s late goal in Topsham proved decisive as No. 6 Deering (7-6), leading 7-2 in the fourth period, survived a furious rally to beat the third-seeded Eagles (9-4) in an Eastern Class A quarterfinal.

Rick Murray led the Rams with four goals and an assist. Billy Farrell and Brett Harmon each had a goal and an assist for Deering. Jeremy Williams scored three times for Mt. Ararat.
