BRUNSWICK — The Brunswick High School girls jayvee lacrosse team closed out its season with an 8-6 record, winning six of its last nine games with a five-game winning streak

After dropping games to Oxford Hills and Winslow, the Dragons turned in a stellar 16-6 verdict against Gardner with 10 different players finding the net.

Amelia Hawley and Angelica Boyle led the charge, with four and three goals, respectively. Sydney Escoe followed with two, and Becca Bailey, Quinn Alexander, Savannah Smith, Mariah Tardiff, Sammi Moore, Amanda Faith and Jenna Bailey had one each.

A 9-5 loss followed against Lewiston in a hard-fought battle that showcased strong defensive play from Emma McKearney, Emily Dwyer, Olivia Schafer, Autumn Richardson and Mariah Tardif.

Skyler McKinney continued to shine as a force on the defensive unit, along with Amanda Faith at the midfield. Elise Bourbon, still subbing as a first-time goalie for the injured Alexis Belling, performed well in goal.

The return of Belling in goal sparked the Dragons in rematches with rivals Mt. Ararat and Morse. The Dragons downed the Eagles, 11-7, and the Shipbuilders, 9-5, to begin a five-game winning streak. Lily Gardner played well in the midfield and found the net along with Jenna Bailey, Hawley and Boyle.

Tough rematches followed against Cony and Messalonskee, but the Dragons prevailed, 5-3 and 4-3, respectively. Emily Tait continued to show strong stick skill improvement on the attack, while Elise Bourbon’s return to the midfield solidified the transition game.

The final game of the season was a 6-4 Dragons victory over Winslow. Alex Roderick, Sammi Moore, Boyle, Becca Bailey, Tait and Richardson played well. Quinn Alexander, who had been injured, left her mark in her final game of the season, playing strong on both attack and midfield, and finding the net along with Bourbon and the Bailey.
