BRUNSWICK — The Miss Maine Scholarship Competition will take place at Crooker Theater today and Saturday, June 21 and 22, at 7 p.m.

Crooker Theater is located at Brunswick High School on Maquoit Road.

Thirteen Maine’s Outstanding Teen and 13 Miss Maine contestants will compete for their respective crowns.

The Miss America Scholarship organization is one of the nation’s leading achievement program and the world’s largest scholarship program for young women. The MAO and its state and local organizations have provided more than $45 million in scholarship assistance. Miss America and Miss America Outstanding Teen Contestants raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, the alliance of premier hospitals for children. It is a nonprofit organization dedicated to saving and improving the lives of children.

Each contestant in the Miss Maine competition will compete in interview, evening gown, swimsuit, talent and on-stage question. The Maine’s Outstanding Teen contestants will compete in interview, life-style and fitness, evening gown, talent and on-stage question.

Another important element of the Miss Maine Scholarship pageant is the platform. Each contestant chooses a platform they would like to promote.

Winners of the State and national titles are accomplished speakers and advocates with appearances ranging from visiting local schools, hospitals, to addressing Congress or even the president.

This year’s pageant will include guest dancers from Boston and New York, and Rey Royale, an R&B singer from Boston. Former Miss Maines will be emceeing and the new Miss Maine 2013 and Maine’s Outstanding Teen 2013 will be crowned.
