BOWDOINHAM — Raymond D. Hamlin Jr., age 88, of Preble Road, died Saturday, July 6, 2013, at the Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice House in Auburn.

He was born in Wiscasset on July 22, 1924, the son of Raymond Sr. and Erma Chamberlain Hamlin. He attended Wiscasset schools.

For many years he worked as a cement truck driver, first for Peterson Company and then Granite Paving.

Raymond’s biggest joy of his life was his family and his family is extremely proud of the fact that he raised five children on his own.

Raymond’s love of oxen, horses and beagles was clearly evident with his membership in the Maine Draft Horses and Ox Association, Maine Trail Rider’s Association and the Kennebec Valley Beagle Club where he was a member for 16 years. At the fairs his oxen pulling earned him many ribbons throughout the years. Raymond was also a volunteer fireman for the Bowdoinham Fire Department.

In his later years he followed his granddaughter, Kellie’s involvement with horses and oxen.

Surviving is a son Raymond “Pete” Hamlin III of Bowdoinham. Five daughters: Iris Davis of Brunswick, Jane Nolan and her husband Billy of Branford, CT., Susan Parks of Orlando, FL., Kathlyn Pope and her husband James of Sheboygan Falls, WI and Jean Hart and her husband Peter of Phippsburg. Also survived 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 2 great-greatgrandchildren and several nieces and nephews, and his beloved beagles Shena and Daisey.

He was predeceased by a granddaughter Kellie Leigh- Anne Hart and two sisters, Florence Rose and Beverly Erskine.

A memorial service will be held Friday, July 12th at 6 PM at the Kennebec Valley Beagles Club, Lunt’s Hill Road, Litchfield, which is located near the intersection of Stevenstown Road and Lunt’s Hill Road.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Bowdoinham Fire Department, 57 Post Road, Bowdoinham, Maine 04008. Arrangements are by Stetson’s Funeral Home, 12 Federal St., Brunswick, where memorial condolences may be expressed at stetsonsfuneralhome.com.
