NORTHBRIDGE, MA — Carroll W. Wonson DMD, 91, passed away Friday, June 28, 2013, in the Beaumont Nursing & Rehabilitation Center surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Audrey H. (Goucher) Wonson, who died in 1986, and the late Barbara (Laumann) Polley Wonson, who died in 1995.

He was born May 29, 1922, in Gloucester, the son of the late Carlton W. and Ruth P. (Burnham) Wonson and was a resident of Gloucester for most of his life, retiring to Orr’s Island, Maine in 1986. He resided in Northbridge for the past two years.

Carroll was a graduate of the Berkshire School in Sheffield, MA and attended Colgate University in Hamilton, NY. He graduated from Tufts University Medical and Dental School in 1942.

He was a veteran of WW II and served as a dentist in the U.S. Army. After leaving the Army he opened his own dental practice in Gloucester. Carroll was a member and Past Master of the Acacia Lodge of Masons AF & AM in Gloucester, a member of the Scottish Rite Chapter of Maine and a member of the Shriners of Maine. He was an avid golfer and played well into his 80’s. Carroll loved sailing and was a Commodore of the Eastern Point Yacht Club of Gloucester. He is survived by his children: Richard G. and his wife Cynthia of Hilton Head Island, SC, Wendy L. and her husband Rowland Hill of Whitinsville, Natalie B. and her husband Charles McQuade of Uxbridge, stepdaughter Susan Dauphinee and her husband Ed O’Hara of Sarasota, FL, 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sisters, Priscilla Hahn and his twin Elizabeth Black.

A memorial service with full military honors will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Buma Funeral Home, 480 Church St., Whitinsville, MA.

Burial will be private and held in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Gloucester, MA.
