Republicans from Sagadahoc County and Dresden will caucus to choose their candidate for the Senate District 19 special election at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 23, at Smith- Toby American Legion Hall on Congress Avenue.
All Sagadahoc and Dresden Republicans are welcome.
Currently, only one Republican has announced an interest in the seat. That is Phippsburg resident Paula Benoit, former senator and Bath business owner. However, any Republican could enter the race even at the caucus itself. A raffle and refreshments will be provided.
The Sagadahoc County Democratic Committee will hold its nominating caucus for the Senate District 19 seat tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at Mt. Ararat High School in Topsham.
The winner of each caucus will join Maine Green Independent Party nominee Daniel Stromgren, 40, of Topsham, on the Aug. 27 special election ballot to replace former Sen. Seth Goodall, who resigned to take a post with the U.S. Small Business Administration.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
