TOPSHAM
Construction crews will install new transmission structures in the median of Interstate 295 in Topsham, near mile 34, through Friday, Central Maine Power Company officials said.
The project to enhance CMP’s electrical grid will affect northbound traffic on I-295.
The work will require closing the left lane of Interstate 295 north- bound, and traffic near mile 34 will be limited to the single northbound travel lane from approximately 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. while the work is being performed.
“The taller transmission structures being installed in this area will provide greater clearance between the treetops and the lines, and thus enhance reliability,” said Gail Rice, CMP spokesperson. “To perform this work safely, the left lane needs to be closed, and this could slow the flow of traffic near mile 34 northbound. We appreciate motorists’ attention to safety as they move through the area.”
Work on the project is being performed by Maine-based contractors Cianbro Corporation of Pittsfield and Shaw Brothers Construction of Gorham.
