To the Editor:
I am writing to show my support for Eloise Vitelli candidate for State Senate District 19.
As a fellow school board member, I saw Eloise consistently lift the level of discourse with wisdom, respect and clarity. As a small-business owner, I have often tapped Eloise’s knowledge to help negotiate available opportunities.
Eloise is a longtime member of the Maine Economic Growth Council, the recipient of the Maine Small Business Association Award for Entrepreneurial Excellence, winner of The Women’s Advocate of the Year Award, and is the director of program and policy at Maine Centers for Women, Work and Community.
As a woman, I am grateful to have a candidate I trust to champion women’s issues with tenacity and respect. Eloise is chairwoman of the Permanent Commission on the Status of Women, a past delegate to the NGO Conference on Women in Beijing and an inductee into Maine Women’s Hall of Fame.
As a longtime Maine citizen, I want someone representing me who will continually vote for what is right for the people, rather than for the promotion of some national agenda. Eloise will fight to accept federal dollars to expand affordable health care and create good jobs in Maine. She will work to create solutions to Maine’s tax burden so local municipalities and small businesses aren’t left holding all the bills.
As a resident of the island of Arrowsic, Eloise knows the importance of community. Arrowsic is a place where people take care of one another and work together regardless of ideology.
I have rarely seen a candidate so qualified. She possesses practical knowledge, legislative skill and proven dedication and integrity.
Vote for Eloise Vitelli for state Senate District 19 representing Sagadahoc County and Dresden on Aug. 27.
