Iranian photos at USM gallery

The University of Southern Maine Art Gallery on the Gorham campus will present “Persian Visions: Contemporary Photography from Iran,” Sept. 17 through Dec. 8. The gallery is open noon to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays-Sundays s.

Free and open to the public, the exhibit features 58 photography and video installations by Iran’s most celebrated photographers.

USM brass concert a British tribute

Betty Rines of Gorham, a faculty member at the University of Southern Maine, has assembled top brass musicians for a university faculty-alumni concert at 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 13, in Corthell Concert Hall on the Gorham campus.

The concert, Mainely British Brass, is a tribute to the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble and the London Brass. Peter Martin, university music professor, will conduct.

GBE golf scholarship tourney

Gorham Business Exchange is hosting its 12th annual Fore-a-Scholarship Golf Scramble and Barbecue on Friday, Sept. 20, with a 1 p.m. shotgun start at Gorham Country Club.

This annual event provides scholarships to two graduating Gorham High School seniors. One scholarship will be presented to a student pursuing a business degree, and the other scholarship will be presented to a student who has shown an outstanding commitment to community service.

Trade in wood stoves

Jotul North America, which is headquartered in Gorham Industrial Park, is offering woodstove owners $300 off the price of a new Jotul model when they trade in their old stove in a program running through Monday, Sept. 16. Old stoves are rendered unusable and recycled.

Lego Club at Baxter

The Lego Club will meet on every second Saturday monthly beginning Sept. 14, at Baxter Memorial Library, 71 South St., Gorham.

Lego Club is open to everyone who likes to build,” Kathy Stevens, youth services librarian, said in an announcement.
