FREEPORT — Fernand Sylvio LeBourdais, 95, died at the Hawthorne House in Freeport on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013.

He was born in Brunswick on March 13, 1918. Fern was the first of 18 children born to George and Almina (Labbe) LeBourdais. He attended St. John’s School.

Fern served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was employed at Brunswick Naval Air Station as an exterminator for 30 years, retiring in September 1979.

He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and watched every game as the “Armchair Ref.” He loved wrestling, cribbage, playing horseshoes and was an avid bowler. He had won titles in cribbage, horseshoes and bowling through the years.

Fern had also been involved with square dancing with the Sage Swingers Club.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Lillian A. (Atkins) LeBourdais.

Survivors include three children, Janet M. and her husband, Vaughn Taylor of Brunswick, Richard A. LeBourdais of Brunswick, Nancy and her husband, James Swimm of Topsham; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; four great-greatgrandchildren; and many siblings, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 23, at Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal St., Brunswick, with the Rev. Gordon Cook officiating. Private interment will be held at Maine Veterans Cemetery, Augusta.
