Information sessions are occurring statewide for families interested in the proposed full-time virtual public charter school Maine Connections Academy — a “tuition-free educational option for students in grades 7-12,” according to a news release.
Families are invited to RSVP to attend an information session to learn about the prospective enrollment process, review the curriculum and discover if Maine Connections Academy is the right school for their student.
Sessions are today in Bangor and tomorrow, 10 to 11 a.m. at the Fairfield Inn & Suites, 14 Anthony Ave., Augusta; and 2 to 3 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn, 14 Great Falls Plaza, Auburn.
To register, email [email protected].
Maine Connections Academy’s application to operate as a charter school will be submitted in December. If approved, the school will open in the 2014-15 school year offering what it calls “a high-quality, highly accountable, tuition-free education.”

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
