BOWDOINHAM — The Bowdoinham Historical Society is scheduled to seal the town’s Century Box tonight.
The Society has collected items and messages to be sealed in the box, which will be reopened in 2062 and again in 2112. The town has worked on the project since 2012 — the town’s 250th birthday — in order to give future generations a glimpse of the town in the form of a special time capsule.
The action will take place after the selectmen’s meeting is called to order, during a regular meeting that begins at 5:30 p.m. today at Coombs Municipal Building at 13 School St.
Selectmen also will take action on approval of 2013 municipal valuation return; a tree growth penalty for Robert and Christeen Gibson in the amount of $8,668; a lease agreement between the town and Taurus Systems Inc.; the appointment of David Engler to the Finance Advisory Committee; and confirmation of the warden appointment for the Nov. 5 election.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
