To the Editor:
There is only one choice in this year’s District 1 school board race that stands out as the best candidate to help usher Brunswick into prosperity. That choice is Byron Watson.
It was Byron Watson’s leadership as chairman of the Brunswick School Board that put an end to the closed-door budget hearings. Chairman Watson pushed forward his common-sense solutions and is the reason all school board budget hearings are now open to the public and televised.
Brunswick needs Byron Watson there again to question and — where appropriate, to challenge — budget proposals submitted by department heads at these hearings.
When that hasty decision was made to cut all Brunswick High School freshman sports, it was Byron Watson, and Byron Watson alone, who stood tall and saved those activities for more than 200 student athletes in one of the most difficult transitional years of a student’s career.
I know all too well the heat that can come with an elected position, and it is a breath of fresh air knowing Byron Watson is willing to serve the town of Brunswick again.
Byron’s student-focused plan emphasizes the importance of our tightknit community, saves our community millions of dollars and focuses on collaboration with our adjoining school districts.
If you want your tax dollars spent on what will benefit our children the most, join me in supporting Byron D. Watson to the District 1 School Board seat.
