To the Editor:
I am writing to encourage my fellow residents in District 6 to vote for Jane Millett for Town Council on Nov. 5.
I might get to a handful of Town Council meetings each year, but Jane is almost always there, and prepared with insightful notes, comments and questions. I get to more school board meetings and, again, Jane is typically in the seat ahead of me.
It will be excellent to have a person on the council who sees the interconnectedness between municipal and school budgets and sees these are not two opposing forces.
She has done her homework and is fully aware of the various projects unfolding here in Brunswick, and will bring her considerable expertise as a real estate agent, community volunteer and MBA to the table. With many opportunities ahead — such as making the best use of our new, expanded municipal properties, and a series of crucial decisions about our schools — Jane will be ready to tackle these issues her first day on the council.
I am confident she will handle them with intelligence and a long-term vision for our town’s success and growth. She’s never afraid to challenge the council with tough questions about the projects the town is engaged in — even if it means ruffling feathers. This is who I want representing me.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
