ARUNDEL (AP) — A guard at the York County Jail has been placed on paid administrative leave after he was charged with drunken driving.
A sheriff ’s spokesman says 26-year-old Matthew Willey of Biddeford was found semiconscious in his vehicle at about 1 a.m. Sunday after it apparently left Route 111 in Arundel and came to rest in some bushes.
Willey was taken to the hospital for observation.
Police also suspect Willey of being involved in a hitand run accident that took place shortly before his vehicle went off the road. That accident remains under investigation.
Willey has worked at the jail since 2008.
Willey is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 11. He could not be reached. He will remain on leave pending the outcome of his case and an internal affairs investigation.
