FREEPORT — Marcelle “Doogie” Martin, 89, died Nov. 6, 2013, at Hawthorne House.

She was born April 6, 1924, in Lewiston, Maine, the daughter of Alphonse J. and Jeanne Cote Dugal. She graduated from Lewiston High School and later earned her beautician’s license at Provencher Beauty School in Lewiston.

Marcelle owned and successfully operated her beauty salon “Chez Marcelle” on Lower Main Street in Norway, Maine, for many years in the 1960s. She then converted that business to “M.J’s Yarn ’n Craft Shoppe” in the ’70s with the help of her second husband, Frank Klakowski. They divorced in 1980. Marcelle very much enjoyed living in Norway and made many long lasting friendships there. She much later moved to Brunswick to be nearer her daughter, then to Freeport.

Very creative, Marcelle loved to sew, knit, crochet, upholster, spin wool, weave wall-sized tapestries, and paint among other talents. She also loved landscaping, flowers, interior decorating and animals. She will be most remembered for her sense of humor, fashion and flair. Sometime in the early ’80s she changed her surname to Martin, a grandmother she resembled in spirit.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Yves

“Babe” Nadeau.

She is survived by her son, Gil Nadeau and his wife Alicia Tate-Nadeau of Oklahoma; a daughter Jeanne Nadeau Brooks and her husband Robin B.S. Brooks of Orr’s Island; five grandchildren, Jeffrey Nadeau of OK, Austin Nadeau of CA, Kevin Nadeau, Gavin Nadeau and Lindsey Nadeau of OK; great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Contributions in her memory may be made to Coastal Humane Society, 30 Range Road, Brunswick 04011.

At her request there will not be a service. Arrangements are under the care of Brackett Funeral Home, Brunswick. Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.brackettfuneralhome.com.
