WOOLWICH — Russell Ernest Bodeen, 67, of Old Stage Road, died suddenly Monday, Nov. 11, 2013, in Spruce Head.

He was born in Great Falls, Montana on Sept. 8, 1946, a son of Walter E. and Lucille M. (Brown) Bodeen.

He attended schools in Whitefish, Columbia Falls, Kalispell, and Anaconda, Montana and entered the U.S. Navy, serving on the USS America as an arresting gear operator and assistant deck edge operator during the Vietnam War. He was employed at the Anaconda Company as a carpenter in Montana and on July 8, 1970, he married Ellen M. Frailey. He moved to Maine and was employed at Bath Iron Works for 23 years, retiring in 2011.

He enjoyed woodworking and especially enjoyed spending time with family and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Ellen M. Bodeen of Woolwich; one son, Scott Bodeen and his wife Rebecca of Bath; one daughter, Julie Simmons and her husband Brian of Spruce Head; three brothers, Ronald “Sonny” Bodeen of Montgomery, AL, Wesley Bodeen and his wife Bernice of Columbia Falls, MT, Rodney Bodeen of Glendive, MT; five sisters, Trudy Foltz and her husband Ronald of Missoula, MT, Ruby Jackson and her husband Clyde of Stevensville, MT, Robin Connor and her husband Bernard of Butte, MT, Sandra Brown of Hamilton, MT, and Rose Ann Malloy of Hamilton, MT; seven grandchildren, Jonathan Ryder, Samuel Simmons, Ashley Rowe, Kayla Soucy, Tyler Bodeen, Courtney Bodeen and Hayley Adams, and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by three brothers, Roy Bodeen, Ray Bodeen and Allen Bodeen and two sisters, Cynthia Messmer and Ruth Bowen.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013, at Daigle Funeral Home, 819 High St., Bath.
