PORTLAND — Mary Lou (Demers) Corbut, 87, of Portland died on Friday in Portland. She was born on Feb. 2, 1926 in Boston.

Following her education, she married Joseph Corbut on March 2, 1946 in Holyoke, Mass. They were married for 67 years. They lived in Holyoke, where they raised their family until 1994, when they moved to Scarborough. Corbut worked as a bookkeeper for construction and plumbing firms.

She was active with the Columbiettes of St. Maximillan Kolbe Church in Scarborough and enjoyed summers with friends at Higgins Beach. She was also a member of the Higgins Beach Association. Corbut was a dedicated volunteer for many years at the Maine Medical Center Children’s Cancer Center and was a consistent contributor to charities for children.

Mary Lou was predeceased by a daughter, Marlene Corbut, and a brother, Robert Demers. She is survived by a daughter, Joyce Coburn of Windham.  

A memorial service to be held at a later date will be announced. Corbut’s family requests that there be no flowers and that donations in her memory may be made to the Maine Medical Center Children’s Cancer Center, 22 Bramhall St., Portland, ME 04102.
