Elected to the Gorham School Committee, Kyle Bailey not only outspent two other school candidates seeking office in the municipal election on Nov. 5, he also topped the five council candidates, as well.

According to required filing figures made available by Acting Town Clerk Jennifer Elliott, Bailey spent $4,461.73.

Bailey said this week he had “99 friends, family members and neighbors” who contributed to his campaign. “My expenditures included design and printing of mailers and flyers, postage, and yard signs,” Bailey said. “I had a small amount of money left over in my campaign account after Election Day, and made a donation to the Gorham Educational Foundation.”

John Doyle, also elected to the school panel, spent $463.29.

Benjamin Hartwell, who was elected to the Town Council, shelled out $433.11 in expenditures. The other council candidates and their expenditures were Forrest Genthner with $314.50; Matthew Robinson, who was re-elected, $130; Jim Means, $90.60; and Bruce Roullard, also elected, $48.26.

The School Committee incumbent, Kyle Currier, who lost her seat on the board, spent $145.97.

Bailey, who received 1,371 votes, spent about $3.25 per vote compared to top vote-getter Roullard, who tallied 1,485 votes while spending about 3 cents per vote.

In contributions, Bailey led the pack with $5,745.38; Roullard, $500, and $609.83 in in-kind contributions; Hartwell, $561.67; Jim Means, $550; Doyle, $500.01; and Forrest Genthner, $100, and $286.77 in other cash receipts.

“The $286.77 means that the other donations were below $50 and the donors did not have to be declared since it was such a small amount,” Genthner said on Monday.

Robinson and Currier did not receive contributions.
