PORTLAND — The “Polar Bear Dip, 5K race to Help Fight Climate Change” is scheduled to be held Dec. 31 in Portland’s East End.

Looking for a feel good adrenaline rush? Be bold in the cold with a plunge into the Atlantic and/or winter jaunt around the East End to support the Natural Resources Council of Maine’s work to reduce climate change pollution.

Those interested can preregister online at nrcm.kintera.org/dipdash.

Race-day registration opens at 9:30 a.m. at the Back Cove parking area (across from Hannaford). The 5K begins at 11 a.m., and the dip will be at noon. A shuttle will return participants to their cars at Back Cove after the plunge.

The registration fee is $35.

There are additional prizes for top finishers, best costume, youngest and oldest participants, including Lamey Wellehan gift certificates, hand-knit polar bear hats, books by Maine author/illustrator Jamie Hogan, and more.

This year’s Dip & Dash is sponsored by WCLZ, Lee Auto Mall, Robinson Smith Wealth Advisors, Clynk, ReVision Energy, Malley Weber, Lamey Wellehan, Renys, Delorme, Spectrum Medical, Burgess Computer, Seaside Web Design, Back Country Excursions, Yelp, The Great Lost Bear and other local businesses.
