RANDOLPH — Marie Evangeline Spear, 83, died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2013, at her home with her three girls at her side. She was born in Augusta on Dec. 4, 1929, a daughter of Walter and Evangeline Fisher Milligan.

Mom fought a long hard battle against cancer for the past 3 1/2 years. She was a fighter right to the end. She was a member of the Randolph United Methodist Church Red Hatters. Mom enjoyed camping in Oquossic at their lot that she and Dad bought in 1969. Many happy memories were made there. The last summers of Mom’s life were spent camping at The Birches Campground in Litchfield. Mom loved to see and hear her loons. She was known by all there as “Nana.”

A special thank you to the nurses at the Alfond Center. Also a heartfelt thank you to Marge, Dot and Bev who helped care for Mom and Judy Harriman who read her short stories during her last days. A special thank you to her nurse Karen Gallant and also her faithful devoted aide, Emily Vigue.

She was predeceased by her husband Donald E. Spear, grandson Brent Gordon, and great-grandson Jacob Bruesch.

She is survived by her daughters Cynthia Gagnon and husband Peter of Moscow, Grace Walton and husband James of Pittston, Katherine Woodman and husband Jerry of Randolph, grandchildren Michelle McDougal and husband Michael of Bath, Melissa Gregoire and husband Michael of Augusta, Naomi Banks and companion Robert LaCascio of Sabattus, Jerry Woodman and wife Nikki of Leeds, James Walton II of Pittston, Richard Gordon of Colorado and Joshua Gordon of Farmingdale, her siblings her sister Madeline Tatlock and husband Arthur of Gardiner, her brother Richard Milligan and wife Cynthia of Umatilla, Florida, 19 greatgrandchildren, two greatgreat grandchildren and a third great-great-grandchild to be born Dec. 26, 2013, and many nieces and nephews. Mom was known to many as “Nana.” Mom also had many of our friends that she called her adoptive daughters; you know who you are!!!

Rest in peace, Mom, you deserve it. We will miss you greatly. Love you, Mom.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, Dec. 5 at 11 a.m. at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner. Burial will be in the Maine Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Augusta. After the service a gathering will take place at the Gardiner Elks Lodge on Cobbossee Avenue, Gardiner.
