BIDDEFORD — Karen Banning, director at Caring Companion Home Care, will be leading the Biddeford Memory Cafe, the second Thursday of the month, at 11 a.m. Feb. 13 at Elements, 265 Main St., Biddeford.
Both Banning and Ken Capron, founder of the cafes, were featured on Zaffie Hadiaris’ public access television program earlier this month, regarding the program. Check Channel 3’s website for repeat program times.
“Memory cafes are places where persons with Alzheimer’s or a related dementia can go with their care partners to just socialize and have fun with other people going through similar things,” said Banning. “At a memory cafe, people can relax and just be themselves, knowing that no one judges them and all who are there are going through almost the same things that they go through every day.
“Each memory cafe around the country is different,” said Banning. “All are grassroots efforts to assist the person with dementia and their care partner to have a good day.”

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
