The Gray Public Library at 5 Hancock St. in Gray is scheduled to reopen on Tuesday, March 11. They will resume Story Time on Friday, March 14, location to be announced.

A public supper of baked beans, casseroles, salads, beverages, and homemade breads and desserts will be held on Saturday, March 22, at 5 p.m. The First Congregational Church, Route 115, Gray, will be hosting this event that will cost adults $8, under 12 – $4. 5th Annual Patriot 5K

2014 Registration is now open for May 17’s fifth annual Patriot 5K Run/Walk. The Patriot 5K is held at St. Gregory’s Church, 24 North Raymond Road, and is a USATF-certified, fast, mostly flat, scenic course around Crystal Lake in Gray.

Free tech T-shirts to everyone that signs up by April 28. Thousands in prizes and a fun, family friendly atmosphere. Registration for the 5K is $18, $20 day of race. The kids fun run is free and starts at 8 a.m. The 5K starts at 9 a.m.

LL Assessment Schedule

With the new combined Gray-New Gloucester Little League, it is more important than ever that the coaches at each level know the skill set possessed by every player so that they can create balanced teams and make sure that each player is playing at the appropriate level.

The baseball assessment is on March 15 at the G-NG Middle School. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your time slot to get registered and assigned a number: 12-year-olds at 8 a.m., 11-year-olds at 9:30 a.m. , 10-year-olds at 11 a.m., 9-year-olds at 12:30 p.m., 8-year-olds at 2 p.m., 7-year-olds at 3:30 p.m.

Every player other than T-ballers needs to be assessed. Softball assessments were held earlier, please try to make it to baseball assessment the first time around. They will have a make-up date for assessments if necessary. For more information, go to www.gnglittleleague.com.

Gray Rec News

Gray Recreation activities starting soon include: Gymnastics, Cheer Tumbling, Mad Science, Zumba for Kids, Lacrosse, Horseback Riding Lessons, Men’s and Women’s Pick-up Basketball, Men’s Spring Flag Football League, Jr. Track and Field and Hoop Dance.

An in-service day for children will be held on April 18 and April Vacation Camp for grades K-6 sign-up is in progress. An ice skating party is scheduled for March 15 at the Pep-Up Rink and the Annual Easter Egg Hunt at Pineland is April 12.

Budget Workshops

All Budget Workshops are conducted in the Council Chambers, Gray Town Hall at 7 p.m. Workshops are open to the public, and are aired on GCTV Cable Channel 2.

On Tuesday, March 18, there will be an Informal Hearing on the proposed budget to seek public comments before the council takes any official actions regarding the budget.

On the following Tuesday, March 24, the Gray Town Council will have a review of the proposed budget.

Skimeisters

On Feb. 28, at Mt. Abram, in Bethel, Gray-New Gloucester High School ski team members Keaton McEvoy and Eric Wilcox became the 2014 Class B Skimeister State Champions.

The all-around Skimeister competition includes Nordic-classic, Nordic-freestyle, alpine-giant slalom and alpine-slalom.

In the skimeister competition, Wilcox defended his 2013 championship title winning the 2014 title with a total score of 40, a commanding 111-point lead over the next competitor.

McEvoy won the state title for the girls with a score of 59. Caitlin Holmquist placed third with a score of 107. Congratulations!

March Madness

Summer camps open house dates for Fiddlehead Arts Center are Saturday, March 15, 8:30-10:30 a.m. and Wednesday, March 19, 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Come to one of the open house dates to learn more about registration for the Fall Preschool and After School Enrichment programs. Campers can sign up in the month of March and receive not only $20 off full-day camp and $10 off half-day camp, but all will get before and after-care for free. Payment plans for those signing up for four or more camps are available.

Do Your Part

Nomination papers are available beginning Wednesday, March 12, in Gray for the offices of: Town Council (two three-year terms to expire June 2017), MSAD 15 Board of Directors (two three-year terms to expire June 2017), Gray Water District Trustee (one five-year term to expire June 2019).

You’re All Wet

The first annual Crystal Lake “Ice Out” Polar Plunge will be on Saturday, April 12.

This event will benefit the Gray New Gloucester Patriot Parents PTO with a goal to raise $10,000. Participants are encouraged to wear patriotic costumes. Too scared or just too smart? Take the Chicken Dip, just get your feet wet for a great cause.

Donations may be made online, by check or in cash. Check in at Wilkies Beach, Crystal Lake, Gray, Maine at 11:30 p.m. Bring any non-online pledges with you on event day.

The expansion project on the Gray Public Library is completed and the building was open for business on Tuesday, March 11.
