Natalie Van Baars has been named to the University of Hartford Dean’s list for the Fall 2013 semester. Natalie is a sophomore majoring in photography. Congratulations, Natalie!

The Music of Judy Garland

Gorham native and acclaimed professional singer Kelly Caulfield “is” Judy Garland as she presents the timeless music of the woman Fred Astaire called, “The greatest entertainer who ever lived” in a live performance at the Raymond Village Community Church on Main Street on Sunday, April 6, at 2:30 p.m.

Caulfield uses her talented voice and acting ability to feature Garland’s best-known songs as well as a few surprises. The highlights will be two major medleys devoted to her movie music and her Gershwin recordings, as Caulfield interprets songs from the great composers of the era including Irving Berlin, Harold Arlen and the team of Rodgers & Hart.

Part concert, part cabaret and an all around great show, “Legends, The Music of Judy Garland” gives audiences a chance to reminisce while hearing all new arrangements of these amazing songs from the Great American Songbook. Whether you are 9 or 90, you will love hearing such memorable tunes as: “Stormy Weather,” “Johnny One Note,” “Come Rain or Come Shine,” Rock-a-bye Your Baby With a Dixie Melody,” and, of course, “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”

Caulfield’s show premiered last year, and has received rave reviews. The Lewiston Sun Journal says, “Ms. Caulfield is unique in her ability to act out every word and ferret each shred of emotion, bringing new understanding and levels of awareness to songs heard hundreds of times…”

Republicans Meet

The Raymond Republican Committee met recently for its annual caucus leading up to the Fall 2014 November elections. The town party elected officers and assigned committee roles; approved bylaws, selected delegates to the April state Republican Convention and heard from candidates seeking office.

The Raymond Republican Town Party elected these officers at the recent caucus:

Town Chair Mike McClellan; Vice Chair Joe Bruno; Secretary Greg Foster; Treasurer Mike Reynolds

Raymond Republicans assigned to the county committee included McClellan, Bruno and Reynolds.

Raymond Republicans endorsed McClellan as candidate for the new Maine House 66 seat and Sue Austin as candidate for the Maine House 67 seat. Representatives for Gov. LePage and Senator Collins also spoke at the caucus. Dancing Stars

Dancers of CenterStage Performing Arts received awards for their performances last weekend. Brianna Warren, age 14, performed a ballet/lyrical solo at Showstoppers Regional Dance Competition where she received a platinum award for her performance and first overall in her age category. Brianna’s performance included many amazing acrobatic and flexibility skills along with her beautiful dancing.

CenterStage Tumblers/Musical Theater performers Savana Bradford, Kendyl Ridlon, Liza Collins Schrader, Laura Taylor and Kristen Farwell made their way through semi-finals and attended finals of Lake Region’s Got Talent on March 9 where they scored second place. Their performance of “It’s A Hard Knock Life” consisted of acrobatic and tumbling moves, singing and dancing.

Brianna and the tumbling orphans along with about 65 other students will be attending Turn it Up Dance Competition in Scarborough next weekend where they will again perform these acts along with Hip Hop, Lyrical, Ballet, Pointe and Jazz routines. Good Luck CenterStage Dancers!
