To the Editor:
This letter is in response to M. Chris Reese’s April 24th letter to the editor, “$25K to a Vermont Artist?” Mrs. Reese refers to an art project proposed for Brunswick Station by Brunswick Public Art (BPA). The “Vermont Artist” is Maine’s own Miles Chapin, a talented sculptor who was chosen by BPA from a large field of highly qualified applicants. Miles was born and raised in Woolwich, and, while he does currently reside in Vermont, he continues to have strong artistic and family ties to the area.
The Brunswick Station sculpture is being funded by donations from generous private individuals and local businesses, as well as a recently awarded $2,500 grant from the Brunswick Development Corporation (BDC). No tax dollars will be spent on its acquisition or installation. The sculpture will be a gift to the town, its citizens, and visitors.
Installation of the Brunswick Station sculpture is scheduled for the spring of 2015. For more information about this and other public art projects, both completed and planned, please visit BPA’s website: www.brunswickpublicart.com.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
