BATH — In recent Bath Cal Ripken Major Division action, Smith-Tobey Post defeated Sharon Drake in a pitcher’s duel, 2-1 in eight innings.
Nicco Bartone for Sharon Drake singled and stole three bases to score Sharon Drake’s only run in the top of the first.
Smith-Tobey did not respond until the bottom of the fifth when Asa Hodgdon led off the inning with a triple and scored on an RBI single by Ethan Testa.
In the bottom of the eighth, Wade Bradford started the inning with a walk, stole around the horn to third when Sam Kirkpatrick stepped to the plate with two outs. A wild pitch to the backstop plated Bradford with the winning run.
Smith-Tobey pitching was led by Jackson Walker with eighth strikeouts in three innings, Isaak Flaming with five strikeouts in three innings and Thomas Warren with five strikeouts in two innings.
The offense was powered by Warren with two doubles, Hodgdon with a triple, and Walker, Flaming, Testa and Lucas Ouimette with a single each.
For Sharon Drake, Bartone had the only two hits, both singles.
Bartone paced the pitchers with five strikeouts in three innings, while Brogan Shaw and Jack Leonard each struck out four in two innings and Kenny Bassett fanned one in one inning.
Brenton Cahill made the defensive play of the game for Sharon Drake by catching a shoetop line drive by Walker in the second, while Walker threw a laser to third baseman Ouimette to retire the speedy Bartone trying to steal a base.
