PORTLAND — Mary S. DiMatteo, 84, of Portland, died June 10.

She was born in Portland, a daughter of Salvatore and Mary Nolfo. She attended the North School and graduated from Portland High School, Class of 1947.

She married Joseph R. DiMatteo Sr. on April 9, 1951, at Saint Peter’s Church in Portland.

She worked for the Portland Press Herald from 1947 to 1952, then as supervisor of the loan operations department at Casco Northern Bank, retiring in 1990.

Following retirement, she worked as an education technician at Saint Patrick’s School until its closing. Following that, she was a foster grandmother at St. Brigid School.

She was a communicant of St. Peter’s Church and a member of the Sacred Heart Sodality.

She was predeceased by her husband on Dec. 13, 2000; parents; and brother, Joseph Nolfo.

She is survived by two sons, Joseph R. DiMatteo Jr. and Kathy, of South Portland and Paul A. DiMatteo, of Portland; two grandchildren, Angela and Ian Campbell, of Poland, and Julie DiMatteo, of South Portland; one great-grandchild, Parker Joseph Campbell; sister, Stella Sorrells; two aunts, Agrippina Powell and Jeanette Bouchard; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice of Southern Maine and the Gosnell Memorial House for their care in her time of need. A special thanks to her caregiver, Shannon Fields.

At the family’s request, visitation was private. A Mass of Christian Burial was held June 13 at Saint Peter’s Church, Portland. Burial followed at New Calvary Cemetery, South Portland. Arrangements by Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, South Portland.
