“Old Windham” on Speakout

On Thursday, June 26, Bill Diamond will host Speakout on Windham’s local channel 7 at 7 p.m. This month’s topic will be about “Old Windham.” Bill will talk to some of the residents about the way Windham used to be and how Windham is now. You are welcome to call in with your questions during the show at 892-0546. You are also welcome to come to the Windham Town office, Council Chambers, and be part of the audience. Panelists include Dave Tobin, Liz Wisecup and Kay Soldier.

Time for 2015

Graduation is over, and the class of 2015 is already thinking of next year. They have set a date of July 26 to hold their first fundraiser for Project Graduation. So while you’re doing your spring-summer cleaning, think about this worthy project and start saving desks, chairs, tables, bookshelves, lawn furniture, lamps, jewelry, tools, dishes, silverware, glasses, pots/pans, baskets, vases, centerpieces, pictures/paintings, toys, movies, books, bikes, scooters, sporting equipment, craft supplies, board games, strollers, play houses, wagons, video games, etc. No clothes, mattresses, or TVs please. Drop off your items July 25 from 5-7 p.m. at North Windham Union Church, Many thanks in advance for your support. We will remind you of the actual sale (8 a.m.-2 p.m. on July 26 at the church) but mark your calendars now.

Senior Citizen Shopping

Windham Parks & Recreation Department has a bus on Wednesday mornings that goes to North Windham for seniors who need to get groceries, go to the bank, get prescriptions filled, or pick up a few things. Call 892-1905 at least 24 hours ahead of time to reserve your seat.

Marriage Intentions

Artisans & Engines

Windham Historical Society’s second annual Artisans on the Green will held from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, at the society’s headquarters on Windham Center Road. Skilled craftspeople will demonstrate blacksmithing, rug braiding, snowshoe re-lacing and binding, chair caning and weaving, wood and canvas canoe restoration, spinning and many other including toys. This year’s event will also include the Maine Antique Engine group and a display of all kinds of old engines. Suggested donation for the event is $5 per person (maximum of $20/family). All proceeds will benefit developing The Village Green. Hours are from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Visit the society’s website at www.windhamhistorical.org.

Lyme Disease

Kate Colby from the Maine Center for Disease Control will present a program on Lyme disease on Wednesday, July 9, from 6-7 p.m. in the meeting room at the Windham Public Library. Colby will also discuss how to play it safe and avoid getting sick when you are opening up a summer home or camp. Choir Concert

?On Thursday evening, June 26, Music with a Mission will welcome the Grove United Methodist Church Youth Choir from West Chester, Pa., to the North Windham Union Church. The concert is free, but a donation of $5 is suggested. All ages are welcome. Box office opens at 6:15, doors open at 6:30 p.m. For more information, call 892-7149 or email [email protected].

AARP Smart Driver

The all-new AARP Smart Driver course for drivers age 50 and older will be presented from 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the Windham Public Library on Saturday, June 28. Advance registration no later than June 23 is requested. Class size is limited and registrations are accepted first come, first served. To register, phone John Hammon, volunteer instructor, at 655-4943. The registration fee is $15 for AARP members, $20 for others.

Veterans Service Officer

Veterans Service Officer Jerry Smith is available from 9 a.m.-noon on Wednesday, June 25, and every second and fourth Wednesday morning at the Windham Veterans Center in North Windham. If you’re a veteran or a veteran’s dependent, and have questions about benefits, stop in and find out more. You do not need an appointment.

Bingo at Veterans Center

Every Tuesday through Oct. 28, the Standish Memorial Post 128 sponsors bingo at the Windham Veterans Center, doors open at 4 p.m.; Bingo at 6:30 p.m., Early Bird at 6:10 p.m. WTA – Pull Tabs – 50/50. Cold drinks, chips, crackers, candy, popcorn.
