BIDDEFORD — In June, an independent, Maine-based cancer and research practice changed its name.
The Maine Center for Cancer Medicine and Blood Disorders is now the New England Cancer Specialists.
“We treat patients from throughout New England, and we consult on cases across the country, so we thought it’s time that our name better reflected our reach and reputation,” said Dr. Tracey Weisberg, one of the 13 cancer specialists on staff.
Founded in 1978, New England Cancer Specialists is celebrating not only its new name, but also its evolution into a comprehensive treatment and research facility. Because it is an independent entity, New England Cancer Specialists is able to work with any hospital or primary care physician in the state, region or country, according to staff.
“Any doctor can refer any patient to us here at NECS,” said Weisberg. “And we will keep a patient’s primary care physician fully informed at every step during treatment.”
New England Cancer Specialists has four offices in southern Maine, including one in Biddeford and one in Sanford.
