BATH — Ethel Louise (Rogers) Hanrahan, 85, a longtime resident of Bath, died Monday, July 14, 2014, at Winship Green Nursing Center in Bath after a short period of declining health.

She was born in Bath on June 22, 1929, a daughter of Clarence Alden and C. Louise (Whitten) Rogers.

Ethel was raised and educated in Bath and was a graduate of Morse High School class of 1948. On May 11, 1963, she married James Hanrahan of Winthrop, MA at Central Congregational Church in Bath. They made their home in Winthrop, MA for 11 years. Upon moving back to Bath in 1974, she was a homemaker before returning to employment. Ethel was employed by George Carlton, a lawyer in Bath, followed by employment at the Bath Water District office where she had worked earlier in her career. She retired from the Bath Water District in 1994 with a total of 25 years of service. She resided at the Moorings in Bath for the past 20 years.

She was a former member of the Corliss Street Baptist Church, a member of the Bath Area Senior Citizens Center and participated in the Bath High School Alumni Association attending nearly every class reunion.

Ethel was an avid Red Sox fan and loved cats. She also enjoyed reading, going to her favorite restaurants, and spending time with close friends and family, as well as visiting with her daughter and son-in-law. She had a wonderful sense of humor and will be dearly missed by all.

On May 1, 1977, she was predeceased by her husband, James Hanrahan.

Ethel is survived by her daughter, Karen and her husband Raja Bortcosh of Franklin, Ma and several cousins in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

A graveside service will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery, Maple Grove Extension at a later date to be announced.
