BAILEY ISLAND — James E. Davis, age 74, died of complications due to CNS Lymphoma on Saturday, July 19, 2014, at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

He was born in Bath, ME and raised in Cundy’s Harbor, ME, a son of Roy and Madelyn (Hart) Davis. He graduated from Brunswick High School, class of ’59. On Oct. 14, 1961, he married Diane Johnson.

He was a member of the National Association of Realtors and the National Auto Dealers Association. He had also been a member of the Friends of Eagle Island, and of the Fort Myers Fishing Club, Florida, where he and his wife wintered for many years.

A car guy, he started selling automobiles for Black’s Olds in 1967. His career in the auto business spanned 30 years, including ownership of Davis Auto, Brunswick and Davis Auto Mall, Waterville and Davis Olds-Cadillac Volvo in Augusta, where he was awarded the 1995 Citizen of The Year. Later in life, he joined his son as a Realtor for Homes & Harbors Real Estate.

Beyond his love of fishing and cars, he enjoyed golf, and supporting his children and grandsons in their athletic pursuits. It is believed, “He never missed a game” and his dedication lead him to serve as the president of the Mt. Ararat Sports Boosters.

He is predeceased by a brother, Alan Davis.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Diane; two sons, Bruce Davis and his wife Heather of Orr’s Island, Craig Davis and his fiancee Sandra Gosselin of Monmouth; a brother, Stephen Davis and his wife Deborah of Cundy’s Harbor; a sister Linda Melton and her husband James of Cundy’s Harbor; grandsons, CJ, Nathan, William.

Friends and family can visit 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, July 26 at Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal St., Brunswick. A memorial service will be held Sunday, July 27 at the Mackerel Cove Land Trust at 1 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to the Orr’s & Bailey Island Fire Department, P.O.
