LEOMINSTER, Mass. — The Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide were eliminated from FCBL playoff contention after a 7-5 loss to the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs on Sunday afternoon at Doyle Field With just four games left on its regular-season schedule, the defeat puts the Raging Tide (19-31) six games behind the Pittsfield Suns (24-24) for the sixth and final playoff spot.
Wachusett (25-26) won its fifth game in a row thanks to a four-run eighth inning off OOB reliever Will Ore, starting with an Austin Botts two-run homer. Sam Goodwin-Boyd followed with a single, and Brendan Skidmore then hit the second home run of the inning for the winning runs.
OOB had taken a 5-3 lead in the top of the eighth thanks to run-scoring singles by Mekae Hyde and Rahiem Cooper. Hyde led the Raging Tide offense with three of his teams six hits, scoring three runs and knocking in three more, including a home run in the first inning,
Evan Brisentine started the game for the Tide and gave up three runs on three hits and a walk in 6.2 innings. Matthew Ferraiolo threw two innings of relief for the Dirt Dawgs to pick up the win, with Matt Russell pitching a scoreless ninth for the save.
