George Tuttle uses an acetylene torch to cut steel Monday, Aug. 11, on the old Martin’s Point Bridge between Portland and Falmouth. A new bridge, which opened to Veranda Street-Route 1 traffic in June, will be celebrated with an event called the Martin’s Point Bridge Bash on Sept. 14 from 1-4 p.m. Nonprofit organizations and volunteers are being recruited to participate in the party, which project spokeswoman Carol Morris said will feature live music, food trucks, tours of bridge-building equipment, antique cars, and more. The celebration, sponsored by the city of Portland, town of Falmouth and Martin’s Point Health Care, will take place on the new bridge’s multi-use path. More information is available on the Martin’s Point Bridge Bash Facebook page or from Morris at 329-6502.
