BRUNSWICK — In connection with a nationwide effort sponsored by the Federal Drug Enforcement Agency, local law enforcement and community service agencies will collect unwanted or unused medications from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at five locations in the Mid-coast region.
Collections will take place at: Bath Police Department, 250 Water St.; Brunswick Police Department, 85 Pleasant St.; Harpswell Town Office, 263 Mountain Road; Richmond Police Department, 26 Gardiner St.; and at the Topsham public safety building at 100 Main St.
The public is asked not to stash or flush medications in order to keep them from harming the environment and prevent unintentional misuse or abuse. The medication collection provides citizens a safe, environmentally sound disposal option for unwanted, outdated medications.
All unused, unwanted and outdated prescriptions, overthe counter and veterinary medications, including all household pills, ointments and drops, will be accepted.
Needles and thermometers cannot be accepted.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
