BRUNSWICK — Elio H. Scherpa, of Bath Road, Brunswick, ME, and Scherpa Street, Agawam, MA, died surrounded by his loving family at age 91 on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2014, at Mid Coast Senior Health Center in Brunswick.

He was born in Agawam, MA, on May 30, 1923, the son of Augusto and Louisa Morini Scherpa. He attended Agawam schools and went on to trade school in Springfield, MA, to become a master machinist.

On Sept. 17, 1949, he married Mary A. Crimmins, who predeceased him in February 2004.

Elio worked his entire career as a machinist and foreman, working on airplanes and space craft at Hamilton Standard, part of United Aircraft. He retired in 1987 and moved to Maine in 1999.

He loved gardening, cooking and bird watching. He also enjoyed the cooks on TV and the History channel. He liked watching the news, reading daily newspapers and magazines, and was an interesting conversationalist.

Elio was a member of St. Anthonys Church in Agawam and St. Charles Church in Brunswick.

Surviving is his beloved daughter, Sue Kelly and her husband Bill of West Bath, ME. He is also survived by his four grandsons: Michael Kelly of Topsham, Jamie Kelly of Topsham, Johnny Kelly of Bowdoinham and Matty Kelly of West Gardiner.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Charles

Borromeo Church-

All Saints Parish, 132 McKeen St., Brunswick on Tuesday, Sept. 30 at 11 a.m., followed by a reception in the Parish Hall. Burial, along with his wife Mary, will be in St. Thomas the Apostle Cemetery on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 10 a.m., Agawam, MA, in the Scherpa family plot.
